A Sweet Stop in Zurich
If you’re spending some time in Zurich, the Lindt Home of Chocolate is a worthwhile stop for anyone with a sweet tooth. The museum is modern, beautifully designed, and offers an interesting look at the history of chocolate, from the cocoa bean to the finished product. Along the way, you’ll also have the chance to sample a variety of Lindt chocolates.
While I enjoyed the exhibition, I couldn’t help comparing it to the Zotter Chocolate Factory in Austria. If you’ve been there before, the Lindt experience may feel underwhelming. The tasting selection is much smaller, and unlike Zotter, you can’t work your way through a large part of the product range. Another disappointment was that visitors don’t get to see the chocolate being produced live. While the exhibition explains the manufacturing process well, the actual production remains hidden behind closed doors. At Zotter, on the other hand, you can watch many parts of the production process in action, making the experience feel much more authentic and engaging.
Another downside during my visit was that some of the chocolate dispensing machines were either very slow or not working properly. On top of that, the museum was extremely crowded, making it difficult to enjoy the exhibition at a relaxed pace.
Another thing to keep in mind is that tickets often sell out well in advance. If you’re planning to visit, it’s a good idea to book your tickets early, as there’s a high chance that popular time slots will already be fully booked.
Pros
- Modern and beautifully designed museum
- Interesting insights into chocolate production
- Chocolate tasting included
- Great activity while visiting Zurich
Cons
- Limited tasting compared to Zotter
- Some tasting machines were slow or out of order
- Very crowded during my visit
Final Verdict
The Lindt Home of Chocolate is a fun experience and definitely worth visiting if you’re already in Zurich. However, if you’re looking for the ultimate chocolate experience, Zotter is still my clear favorite thanks to its much larger tasting selection and more immersive experience.
